Walking
The’Ruta Vicentina’ was founded in 2013 in cooperation with the European Union. It is part of the international GR hiking network.
On this historic multi-day route along coasts and old fisherman’s paths, the ocean is always present and you can enjoy the splendour of wild flower fields.
If you look around, you even have the chance to see otters which are not found elsewhere in the sea environment. You can also spot storks that build their nest on the cliffs along the coast, something they don’t do elsewhere in the world. The complete route is indeed a walk of 350 km but also day hikes or parts of the route can be walked. Ruta Vicentina, as part of the GR11, passes along the front door of ‘O Horizonte’ in Carrapateira.
In addition there are beautiful walking routes of 5 km, 10 km or 25 km in the immediate vicinity starting in the village.
Walking is what most enthusiasts do in spring or early autumn because of the climatic conditions.
